Youth Tobacco Youth Prevention Workshops for 5th Graders and Parents
Posted 1/22/20

The rates of youth tobacco use are on the rise. E-cigarettes and vaping devices are becoming more popular with young people. In 2018-19, one out of eight 7th graders in Napa County reported use of an Electronic Cigarette.

STUDENT PRESENTATION
A team of prevention educators from the Napa County Office of Education will be leading presentations for all NVUSD 5th grade students during school to practice ways to resist pressure to use e-cigarettes. Using the curriculum, “CATCH My Breath E-Cigarette and Juul Prevention,” we will educate our 5th grade students on:
  • The health hazards of e-cigarettes.
  • Discuss why people begin using e-cigarettes.
  • Determine positive alternatives to using e-cigarettes.
  • Recognize the advertising methods the industry uses to make you want to try e-cigarettes.

PARENT PRESENTATION
The prevention team in collaboration with NVUSD will also be hosting an information session for 5th grade parents to learn about e-cigarettes/vaping, discuss the curriculum and ask questions.
